Pork Sausage Rolls
My take on a favourite bakery treat. These pork sausage rolls are full of flavour and easy to make.
Ingredients
800g pork mince
1 onion (diced)
1 garlic clove (minced)
½ apple (peeled and grated)
½ tsp chilli flakes
2 tsps fennel seeds
2 eggs (1 for mixture, 1 for egg wash)
1 tsp olive oil
3 sheets puff pastry
1 tbsp sesame seeds
Salt and pepper to taste
Method
Preheat oven to 180°C.
On the stovetop, heat a teaspoon of olive oil in a fry pan over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté until soft and translucent. Once cooked, remove onion from fry pan transferring into a large mixing bowl.
Add pork mince, grated apple, minced garlic, chilli flakes, one egg and fennel seeds to the onions in the mixing bowl. Add salt and pepper. Using clean hands (or wearing gloves), mix the ingredients until evenly combined.
In a small bowl, lightly beat the other egg to create an egg wash.
Cut each of your thawed puff pastry sheets in half.
Spoon pork mixture onto each half (6 in total), evenly distributing the mixture. Use your hands to form the mixture into a sausage shape parallel to the longest side of the pastry. Repeat until all six have been shaped.
Take one and gently fold the pastry over the pork mixture to form a tight log. Seal by brushing egg wash on the pastry. Repeat until all six have been shaped.
Cut each log in half or quarters (personal preference).
Transfer rolls onto lined baking trays then brush each roll with egg wash. Sprinkle sesame seeds over each roll.
Bake for 30 minutes until golden brown.
Once cooked, remove from the oven, and carefully remove sausage rolls from the baking tray.
Serve with your sauce of preference.
