Mushroom Sauce

 

An easy-to-make mushroom sauce, delicious with steak and chips.

Ingredients

  • 500g slice white mushrooms

  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)

  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves

  • 250ml thickened cream

  • ½ cup chicken or vegetable stock

  • 2 tbsps butter

  • 2 ½ tbsps corn flour

  • ½ cup water

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Heat butter along with a splash of olive oil in a pot on medium heat.

  2. Once the butter has melted, add sliced mushrooms and cook until softened slightly.

  3. Add garlic to the mushrooms, stir then simmer for 1 - 2 minutes.

  4. Add stock followed by the thickened cream - pour the cream in slowly while softly stirring to ensure the cream doesn’t curdle.

  5. Sprinkle in thyme folllwed by salt and pepper to taste.

  6. In a small cup, mix corn flour with water and stir until the corn flour has dissolved.

  7. Add the corn flour mixture to the mushroom sauce and stir for 1 - 2 minutes.

  8. Let the mushroom sauce simmer for 10 minutes on low, stirring occasionally.

  9. After 10 minutes, your mushroom sauce will be done and ready to serve!
