Mushroom Sauce
An easy-to-make mushroom sauce, delicious with steak and chips.
Ingredients
500g slice white mushrooms
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
250ml thickened cream
½ cup chicken or vegetable stock
2 tbsps butter
2 ½ tbsps corn flour
½ cup water
Salt and pepper to taste
Method
Heat butter along with a splash of olive oil in a pot on medium heat.
Once the butter has melted, add sliced mushrooms and cook until softened slightly.
Add garlic to the mushrooms, stir then simmer for 1 - 2 minutes.
Add stock followed by the thickened cream - pour the cream in slowly while softly stirring to ensure the cream doesn’t curdle.
Sprinkle in thyme folllwed by salt and pepper to taste.
In a small cup, mix corn flour with water and stir until the corn flour has dissolved.
Add the corn flour mixture to the mushroom sauce and stir for 1 - 2 minutes.
Let the mushroom sauce simmer for 10 minutes on low, stirring occasionally.
After 10 minutes, your mushroom sauce will be done and ready to serve!
