Homemade Filet-o-Fish

A better than take-out fish burger. It’s quick and easy to whip together and my Homemade Tartare Sauce is sure to steal the limelight.

Ingredients

Homemade Tartare Sauce

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise (personal preference is Kewpie)

  • Juice of 1 small lemon

  • 1 tbsp capers (finely chopped)

  • 6-7 baby gherkins (finely chopped)

  • 1 tsp fresh parsley (finely chopped)

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp minced garlic

  • ⅛ tsp onion powder

  • ⅛ tsp Dijon mustard

Method

  1. Prepare lettuce by washing leaves thoroughly. Set aside leaves to dry.

  2. Prepare my Homemade Tartare Sauce by adding the mayonnaise, lemon juice, capers, baby gherkins, parsley, salt, minced garlic, onion powder and Dijon mustard to a small bowl. Whisk until well-combined. Place in fridge until ready to assemble.

  3. Preheat oven to 200°C and prepare fish fillets on a tray lined with baking paper.

  4. Place fish in the oven and cook for 20 minutes in total or according to packet. After 10 minutes or halfway, flip the fish to ensure both sides are cooked evenly.

  5. Lightly toast burger buns and melt cheese on the bottom bun.

  6. To assemble, add cooked fish fillet on top of the melted cheese (bottom bun) then sprinkle with a little sea salt. Spoon some of the Homemade Tartare Sauce on the fish fillet. On the top bun, spread with Homemade Tartare Sauce and add lettuce leaves. Pair the buns together and serve.
